Morocco and the UK Aim to Double Trade Through 2030 World Cup Projects

Strengthening Bilateral Trade Relations

Morocco and the United Kingdom are setting ambitious goals to double their trade exchanges and accelerate bilateral investments, capitalizing on the opportunities presented by major structural projects and the preparations for the 2030 World Cup. This was emphasized by Ryad Mezzour, Morocco's Minister of Industry and Trade, and Chris Bryant, the UK Minister of State for International Trade, during the opening of the Morocco-UK Business Forum held in Rabat.

During his official visit to Morocco, leading a delegation of government and private sector representatives, Bryant highlighted the need to significantly enhance trade relations and strengthen partnerships between the two nations. He underscored the importance of the 2030 World Cup as a transformative lever that would not only enhance the country's infrastructure but also create a sustainable legacy for future generations.

Transformative Development Initiatives

Mezzour further elaborated on how the World Cup is viewed as a key development lever aimed at improving transportation infrastructure, health services, and public facilities, benefiting not just the host cities but the entire nation. Beyond the event itself, Morocco is undertaking an extensive territorial and economic transformation program over the next eight years. He encouraged British businesses to leverage Morocco's public markets and transformation projects to strengthen their positioning within global value chains. Additionally, Mezzour expressed Morocco's intent to foster partnerships that go beyond simple technology transfers, focusing instead on investment, innovation, and competitiveness.

This Business Forum, taking place in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, witnessed participation from nearly 50 British companies across various sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
