Morocco Commemorates Africa Day: A Commitment to Water Resource Management and Regional Solidarity

Morocco Marks Africa Day with a Focus on Water Resource Management

On May 25, 2026, the Kingdom of Morocco celebrated the 63rd anniversary of Africa Day in Rabat, where an official ceremony was presided over by Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This significant event gathered the African diplomatic corps accredited to the Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of South-South solidarity. This year's theme centered around water management, highlighting the strategic vision of King Mohammed VI in addressing the continent's pressing challenges related to climate change. Morocco has established itself as a continental model for water resource management, actively sharing its technical expertise through the International Water and Sanitation Institute based in Rabat. This initiative aims to assist its African partners in gaining access to essential services.

Commitment to Stability and Unity in Africa

During the ceremony, Nasser Bourita articulated Morocco's dedication to water resources, stating that the Kingdom serves as a model for Africa in light of the challenges it faces. He emphasized that Morocco not only addresses its own reality but also seeks to share its experiences with fellow African nations on various issues, including migration and terrorism. This event also provided a platform to reaffirm Morocco's commitment to stability and unity across the continent. Mouhamadou Youssifou, the Ambassador of Cameroon and Dean of the African diplomatic corps in Morocco, reflected on the significance of honoring the founding fathers of African unity and called for a more pragmatic integration in response to persistent economic shocks and conflicts.

Youssifou remarked, "The celebration of Africa Day is a moment of duty to honor the memory of the founding fathers of African unity and to look forward to the Africa of tomorrow that we wish to pass on to our children. Despite the often difficult circumstances marked by ongoing inter-African conflicts that drain resources dedicated to development and the economic shocks resulting from external factors, African integration is gradually being built." This celebration once again confirms Morocco's 'politics of belonging,' positioning Rabat as an essential hub for dialogue and co-development on the continent.
