RABAT, Morocco (MNTV) — A significant transformation in public health has taken place in Morocco, as the country has successfully completed the rehabilitation and modernization of 1,400 primary healthcare facilities spanning all 12 regions. This ambitious national initiative, which involved an investment surpassing $640 million, has significantly improved access to healthcare services for over 20 million citizens, both in urban and rural locales. This monumental achievement is a crucial component of the government's broader strategy to revamp the national health system.
As reported by The North Africa Post, the project was officially concluded on April 4 with the inauguration of new healthcare facilities in Al Haouz province, which includes a proximity hospital in Aït Ourir and a second-level rural health center in Tazart. These new establishments symbolize a wider commitment to enhancing the healthcare infrastructure, upgrading medical equipment, and expanding digital systems throughout the primary care network.
Officials have highlighted that this initiative has introduced an integrated health information system designed to facilitate the digital transformation of healthcare services across the country. The distribution of the healthcare projects has also been strategically planned to ensure regional balance, with the Fès-Meknès region receiving the largest share of the investment, followed closely by Souss-Massa and Marrakech-Safi. Notably, southern regions such as Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, and Guelmim-Oued Noun have also been included to guarantee comprehensive coverage nationwide.
Furthermore, authorities have indicated that the program aligns seamlessly with national health reform legislation and adheres to global development goals, particularly the objective of achieving universal health coverage by the year 2030. Looking ahead, plans are in place to extend upgrades to remaining healthcare facilities, ensure the maintenance of renovated infrastructure, implement electronic patient records, and continue training for healthcare professionals.
