Morocco Establishes Joint Venture Focused on Digital Health and AI

Morocco's Commitment to Digital Health Transformation

In a significant step towards enhancing its healthcare system, Morocco has announced the formation of a joint venture dedicated to the advancement of digital health and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative is part of the country's broader healthcare reform agenda aimed at improving medical services and integrating cutting-edge technology into the health sector. On June 15, 2026, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health (FM6SS) and ABA LIFE, the health division of ABA Technology, revealed their collaborative effort to create this venture, which seeks to develop smart healthcare infrastructures underpinned by AI and digital technologies.

Objectives and Strategic Focus of the Joint Venture

The primary goal of this newly established entity is to merge clinical excellence, scientific research, and technological innovation to bolster the performance and resilience of Morocco's healthcare systems. Set to launch operations by October 2026, the joint venture aims to implement augmented health solutions in Morocco initially, with plans for gradual expansion into various African nations. The initiative will encompass a comprehensive modernization of the healthcare value chain, addressing critical areas such as medical research, telemedicine, biosurveillance, biomedical engineering, emergency management, and the incubation of HealthTech startups.

The joint venture will focus on three main pillars: first, it will prioritize research and public health, developing applied programs in AI, precision medicine, and the One Health approach, along with establishing an African epidemiological observatory by the end of 2026. The second pillar will modernize clinical practices, particularly through telemedicine and training healthcare professionals in AI tools, with an ambitious target of training over 100,000 professionals and increasing the utilization of remote consultations in health facilities. Lastly, the venture aims to create a robust HealthTech, MedTech, and Biotech industrial ecosystem, supporting startups and fostering the development of local technological solutions, including the creation of patents and intellectual property assets to encourage medical innovation.

This initiative is part of Morocco's structural transformation of its healthcare system, aiming to extend mandatory medical coverage to over 90% of its population. The project is complemented by the growing capabilities of university hospital infrastructures and research institutions, particularly through collaborations with FM6SS and Mohammed VI University of Science and Health. Moreover, it aligns with a national strategy that seeks to strengthen healthcare sovereignty and establish a more integrated and technologically advanced healthcare system.
