Strengthening Innovation through AI
The Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform has unveiled the 'AI Made in Morocco' initiative, a strategic program aimed at fostering innovation within the realms of Industry X.0 and health technologies. This initiative is a pivotal part of the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, which aspires to create a robust national innovation ecosystem and promote the development of locally conceived artificial intelligence solutions. The introduction of this initiative took place during a scientific seminar at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez, where the theme was centered around 'Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in the Digital Transformation of Enterprises and Their Applications in Industry X.0 and Health Industries.'
During the seminar, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administration Reform, emphasized the critical role that artificial intelligence plays as a strategic catalyst for economic and industrial transformation in Morocco. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the overarching goals of the Digital Morocco 2030 Strategy, which envisions artificial intelligence as an integral part of the nation’s long-term economic and technological development framework. The strategy resonates with King Mohammed VI's vision to weave digital innovation into the very fabric of Morocco's economic modernization.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Prospects
In light of the rapid global growth of the artificial intelligence market, which is anticipated to surge from approximately $189 billion in 2023 to around $4.8 trillion by 2033, the Moroccan government acknowledges the urgency of advancing its AI capabilities. During the seminar, a significant milestone was achieved with the signing of a founding agreement to establish the Al-Jazari Institute of Industry X.0. This institute is set to focus on enhancing research, innovation, and collaboration between academic institutions and industry stakeholders.
This foundational agreement was signed by key ministries, including those of Industry and Commerce, Digital Transition and Administration Reform, and Economy and Finance, in partnership with several academic institutions such as Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Moulay Ismail University, and Al Akhawayn University. The establishment of the Al-Jazari Institute will serve as the cornerstone of Morocco’s national AI network, facilitating the rollout of innovative solutions that are crucial for the country’s advancement in the digital economy.
