Morocco U17 Team Secures Spot in AFCON Semifinals with a Goal Against Cameroon

The Moroccan U17 national team has officially secured its place in the semifinals of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, currently being held on home soil. This achievement came after a hard-fought and well-deserved victory over their Cameroonian counterparts, winning the quarterfinal match with a score of 1-0 on Sunday evening.

Throughout the match, the young Lions displayed a disciplined and organized tactical performance, continuing their impressive journey in the continental tournament with their eyes set on clinching the title in front of their home crowd.

The only goal of the match, which sealed the victory for the Moroccan side, was scored by Mohamed Habib Zenbi in the 17th minute of the first half. This crucial goal was enough to eliminate the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and secure their advance to the semifinals.

Previously, the Moroccan team qualified for this stage by topping their tough group with 7 points, outperforming teams such as Egypt, Ethiopia, and Tunisia.

With this qualification, Morocco is set to face off against Senegal's U17 team in a highly anticipated semifinal clash. Senegal secured their spot after overcoming Mali in a tense penalty shootout, winning 4-2 after the match ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The much-anticipated match is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, with kickoff at 8:00 PM Moroccan time (20:00 GMT +1) and 10:00 PM in Mecca and Cairo.

It is noteworthy that the young Lions of the Atlas had already achieved their primary goal of officially qualifying for the U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2026. The team will enter Thursday's match with the ambition to continue their challenge and overcome the Teranga Lions in pursuit of a place in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, aiming to cap off their remarkable journey with the prestigious African title.
