Morocco's Comprehensive Plan for National Teams
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has made a significant announcement, unveiling what is considered the most thorough preparation plan for any African nation during the forthcoming international break. This initiative is set to engage all of the country's male national teams in a series of friendly matches, strategically scheduled to enhance their readiness for upcoming competitions. One of the key advantages of this plan is that it coincides with the international break later this month, ensuring the availability of all foreign-based players for these critical matches.
This historic move marks the first time an African country has developed such an extensive plan for its male national teams. In addition to the senior national team, which has already organized two friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, a comprehensive schedule has been established for various youth teams. From March 23 to March 31, 2026, these teams will benefit from both matches and preparatory training camps, further solidifying Morocco's commitment to football development.
Engagement of Youth Teams and Development Initiatives
The Under-23, U20, U18, U17, U16, and U15 teams will participate in various friendly matches during this international break, signifying a groundbreaking effort in African football where all male junior national teams will be actively engaged in preparatory matches. These camps and matches are integral to the ongoing initiatives by the National Technical Directorate, aimed at nurturing young football talents while simultaneously equipping all national teams for forthcoming continental and international competitions.
The detailed programme includes the Under-23 National Team scheduled to play two friendly matches: one against Côte d'Ivoire on March 31, 2026, and additional matches against Union Touarga and Meknès Club first teams. Furthermore, the team is set to participate in a friendly tournament in Portugal and will also face Uzbekistan in two friendly matches. Notably, they will compete in the UNAF North African Championship qualifiers for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, taking place from March 24 to April 5, 2026, in Libya. Additionally, the Under-15 teams will partake in the African Schools Championship in Mozambique from April 2 to 10, 2026.
This comprehensive and well-funded training schedule emphasizes Morocco's dedication to not only preparing their senior national teams but also fostering the growth of junior sides to enhance their competitive edge and unveil new talents. The country has witnessed substantial advancements in football infrastructure, and such a detailed preparation plan is expected to further strengthen their efforts to help these teams realize their full potential and achieve significant impacts in the sporting arena.
