Morocco's Rising Tourism Sector: A Record-Breaking Year
In a significant announcement, Mustafa Baytas, the official spokesperson for the government and the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, highlighted the unprecedented dynamism within Morocco's national tourism sector. This year, Morocco has reached remarkable figures that underscore its growing international appeal. Baytas revealed in a press conference following a government council meeting that approximately 19.8 million tourists have visited the Kingdom, nearing the milestone of 20 million. This figure surpasses previous targets and reflects Morocco's status as a distinguished global tourist destination.
Furthermore, the country has made notable advancements in global rankings, climbing to higher positions among international tourist destinations. The performance indicators have shown significant improvement compared to 2019, amounting to an increase of approximately 12 points in tourism metrics. In addition to the influx of tourists, Morocco's tourism revenues have also seen an upward trend, generating nearly $14.8 billion. This achievement places Morocco firmly within the top 31 nations globally regarding tourism revenue, illustrating the strength of its tourism allure and the competitiveness of its offerings.
Strategic Government Initiatives Fueling Growth
Baytas attributed these positive outcomes directly to the government's strategic policies in the tourism sector, which are focused on implementing the 2023-2026 roadmap. This plan includes enhancing air connectivity, developing tourism offerings, expanding accommodation capacities, and improving service quality and tourist experiences. Additionally, he referenced recent financial indicators from the National Office of Foreign Exchange, which reported a 21% increase in travel revenues by April 2026, amounting to approximately 44.39 billion dirhams, compared to 36.61 billion dirhams during the same period last year. Baytas concluded by asserting that these figures not only reflect a robust tourism dynamism but also promise a bright future, reinforcing Morocco's position as a leading tourist destination on both regional and global levels.
