Morocco's Daoudi Confident Ahead of World Cup Clash with France

Morocco's Ambitious Outlook Against France

The retired Moroccan striker, Nabil Daoudi, has expressed unwavering confidence in the capabilities of his national team as they prepare to face France in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. Scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 PM, this highly anticipated match is seen as a pivotal moment for the Moroccan squad, known as the "Atlas Lions," who are determined to continue their journey towards claiming the prestigious title.

In a special interview with "Al-Riyadiyah," Daoudi stated, "As Moroccans, whether fans or former players, we no longer talk about our chances against any team, even if it’s France. The word 'chances' is used for teams that enter the World Cup merely hoping for a respectable participation or aiming for a win or a draw. We have moved beyond that; our goals are different now. We aim to reach the final and win the title. Why not? Morocco has all the necessary elements to achieve this goal."

Strength in Unity and Team Spirit

Daoudi emphasized that Morocco is no longer viewed as an easy opponent for any team. He remarked that Morocco can now hold its own against top-tier teams, including France, asserting, "Many argue that the current French team is not as formidable as it was during the Qatar edition, but on the other hand, Morocco is also not the same team it was yesterday; it has grown stronger and more mature, exhibiting a significant presence on the field."

The strength of the Atlas Lions, according to Daoudi, lies not in individual players but in their collective system. He stated, "We have a well-rounded team, excelling from defense to attack, with all players performing at high levels. This is one of our greatest strengths. Other teams often rely on a single star, and when that player is absent, the team suffers. However, Morocco does not face this issue, as every player can step up and fill in for another." He added that Morocco has successfully managed the absence of several players due to injuries or tactical reasons, showcasing the depth and quality of their squad.

When asked about key players who could make a difference against the French team, Daoudi refrained from naming a single individual, highlighting instead the team’s collective strength. "In every match, a different player stands out, proving that the Atlas Lions do not depend on one star but thrive on teamwork, which gives us a significant advantage," he concluded.

Daoudi also conveyed a motivational message to the current players, reminding them that they do not need advice, as many of them play for leading European clubs and are accustomed to high-pressure situations. His only message was to maintain self-belief, stating, "You represent a champion team capable of winning the World Cup. The key is to secure victory. The coach has demonstrated a remarkable ability to read matches, and I hope he can navigate this challenge successfully and continue the path toward the title."

Nabil Daoudi is a notable figure in Moroccan football history, having left his mark before retiring in the 2018 season. He played for renowned clubs such as Raja Casablanca, Fes, Tetouan, and Salé, and enjoyed professional stints in the UAE with Dubai and Ittihad Kalba, along with a spell at Qatari club Al-Wakrah, concluding his career with Egypt's Pyramids FC.
