Morocco Voices Concerns Over Palestinian Situation Amid Gulf Tensions
The Moroccan government has reiterated the importance of not overlooking the significant developments regarding Palestine while the region grapples with ongoing tensions in the Gulf. In a recent press conference held in Rabat, Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his deep concerns regarding the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, amidst escalating incidents in the Gulf region.
Bourita highlighted the precarious state of affairs due to Iranian aggressions targeting Arab states, a situation Morocco firmly opposes, given its strong ties with those nations. He asserted, "The events unfolding in the Gulf should not distract us from the alarming developments concerning the Palestinian issue, especially those observed in recent weeks in both Gaza and the West Bank." This remark underscores Morocco's commitment to maintaining focus on Palestinian rights and stability, even amid regional crises.
The minister specifically pointed to the troubling events occurring in Jerusalem, including the recent closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, which he described as a source of grave concern. Bourita elaborated on the ongoing attacks on stability in the West Bank, referencing various laws and land confiscations that threaten the Palestinian populace. He emphasized that ensuring stability in the West Bank is essential for the success of any initiatives concerning Gaza.
Furthermore, he called for a return to calm in the region and urged the advancement of the second phase of the U.S. President's plan for Gaza while ensuring stability in the West Bank. This statement comes at a time when the region faces a dual escalation: a persistent Israeli-American campaign against Iran since late February, resulting in numerous casualties, and an ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza that has reportedly left over 72,000 dead since October 2023, supported by American backing.
