Moroccan Transport Ministry Launches 2026 Support Programs
In a significant move to enhance the standards of safety and quality in road transport, the Moroccan Ministry of Transport and Logistics is gearing up to initiate a new phase of support programs designed for professionals in the sector for the year 2026. This initiative aims to modernize road transport and bolster the overall efficiency of services. The ministry has announced the launch of two key programs: "Safe Bus" and "Renewal of the Road Transport Fleet." These programs target public transport operators in rural areas, freight transport services, roadside assistance, and driving schools. The implementation of these initiatives will be conducted through a dedicated electronic platform in two successive phases, starting from June 1, 2026, and the second phase commencing on June 15, 2026.
Marrakech-Menara Airport Sees Significant Passenger Growth
The Marrakech-Menara International Airport has reported a remarkable increase in passenger traffic during the first four months of 2026, welcoming approximately 3,803,669 travelers, which marks a 10.81% rise compared to the same period in 2025. This surge in activity underscores the airport's crucial role as one of Morocco's primary entry points for tourists. In April alone, the airport recorded 1,016,169 passengers, an increase from 937,260 in the previous year, reflecting an 8.42% growth. Additionally, the Tanger Ibn Battouta Airport registered over 872,341 passengers by the end of April, representing an 11.5% increase from the previous year, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
In light of recent health concerns, Royal Air Maroc has implemented strict measures for flights to the United States due to the Ebola virus outbreak, prohibiting boarding for passengers who have traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within the past 21 days. Limited exemptions may apply under strict conditions, including entry through designated airports and thorough medical checks upon arrival.
As Morocco continues to solidify its industrial ambitions, recent international reports have positioned the country at the forefront of industrial economies in Africa, surpassing several traditional economic powerhouses.
