Overview of New Business Establishments

In January of the current year, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region witnessed the establishment of a remarkable total of 1,117 new enterprises, as reported by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property. This surge in new business formations reflects a dynamic economic landscape, with the report highlighting a division between corporate entities and individual entrepreneurs. Specifically, out of the total new businesses, 648 were established by legal entities, while 469 were set up by individuals. Tangier emerged as the frontrunner, contributing significantly with 861 new businesses, followed by Tetouan with 140, and both Larache and Al Hoceima each adding 33 new ventures. Other notable contributions came from Ksar el Kebir with 25, Ouazzane with 9, Asilah with 7, Chefchaouen with 7, and finally Targuist with 1 new business establishment.

Sector Distribution and Legal Structures

When examining the distribution of these new enterprises by sector, the trade sector dominated, accounting for a substantial 42.11% of the newly established businesses. This was followed by the construction, public works, and real estate sectors at 15.87%, and various services at 13.98%. The transportation sector contributed 9.70%, while the industrial sector accounted for 6.74%. The hospitality and restaurant industry represented 5.92%, and the information and communication technology sector made up 3.04%. Additionally, financial activities constituted 1.97%, and agriculture and fishing made up 0.66%. In terms of legal structure, 64.7% of the newly created businesses were classified as single-member limited liability companies (SARL-AU), followed by traditional limited liability companies at 34.8%, with other legal forms comprising the remainder of the businesses.

On a national scale, the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property reported that a total of 7,874 new businesses were created in January, with 5,827 of these being corporate entities (representing 74%) and 2,047 established by individuals (26%). Geographically, the Casablanca-Settat region led the nation with 39.6% of new businesses (legal entities), followed by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region at 13.8%, Marrakech-Safi at 12.5%, and the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region at 11.1%. Collectively, these four regions accounted for an impressive 77% of all new business establishments nationwide.
