New Direct Flight from Montreal to Agadir: A Gateway to Enhanced Connectivity Between Morocco and Canada

Direct Flight Launch: A Milestone for Moroccan-Canadian Relations

The initiation of the new direct flight connecting Montreal to Agadir, set to commence on June 12, marks a significant milestone in enhancing air connectivity between Morocco and Canada. This development opens up fresh avenues for promoting Morocco as a prime destination within the North American market. The announcement was made during a ceremony organized by the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) in Montreal, attended by various stakeholders, including tour operators, travel agencies, and specialized media.

Moroccan Ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani, emphasized the importance of this new flight in strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating travel between the two nations. The launch aims to enhance the mobility of individuals and foster smoother exchanges in commerce, culture, and tourism. The event was attended by numerous accredited ambassadors to Canada, underscoring the significance of this initiative.

Expanding Air Travel Options and Tourism Potential

Air Transat's introduction of this direct route not only enriches the Canadian air transport landscape towards Morocco but also reflects a notable increase in tourism from Quebec and Canada to Morocco. Selva Veragou, Senior Director at Air Transat, highlighted that following the successful launch of the direct Montreal-Marrakech route two years ago, the airline is now expanding its reach with the Montreal-Agadir connection. This new link not only strengthens Air Transat's presence in Morocco but also signifies the airline's growing interest in the African continent.

The choice of the Montreal-Agadir route was described as a natural decision by the airline, given the numerous tourist attractions in Agadir and Morocco's rich cultural heritage. Veragou noted the significant Moroccan community in Canada, particularly in Montreal, stating, "We simply cannot afford to exclude Agadir from our network." Siham Fettouhi, ONMT Director for the North American market, echoed these sentiments, affirming that Agadir is the perfect destination for Canadian tourists seeking sun and beach resorts. She also pointed out that this will be the first direct flight connecting North America to Agadir, emphasizing how it will support the growth objectives for the Agadir destination within a promising market. Additionally, the new Air Transat flight is expected to attract other airlines and travel agencies, further boosting travel to Agadir.

The meeting, which included a delegation from the Souss Massa Regional Tourism Council (CRT), also served as a platform for participants to discuss ways to strengthen existing partnerships, identify new business opportunities, and promote Agadir as a travel destination within the Canadian market. The direct flight from Montreal to Agadir, scheduled to last 7 hours and 15 minutes, will officially launch on June 12.
