Nexus Core Systems Signs $1.28 Billion MoU with Morocco for AI Infrastructure Development

Nexus Core Systems, an innovative company at the forefront of artificial intelligence infrastructure, graphics processing units (GPUs), and machine learning technologies, has officially partnered with Moroccan authorities to establish an AI factory valued at approximately 12 billion Moroccan dirhams (around $1.28 billion). This significant memorandum of understanding was executed on Wednesday during the GITEX Africa 2026 technology conference, which took place from April 7 to 9 in Marrakech. The agreement was signed between Nexus Core Systems and several Moroccan government entities, including the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, as well as the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE). This collaboration marks the initiation of the first phase of the ambitious "Nexus AI Factory Platform" project.

The new facility is set to encompass a high-performance computing (HPC) data center alongside a dedicated center for training and knowledge transfer, in addition to an innovation hub designed to foster the development of next-generation technological solutions. This initiative aligns with Morocco’s broader efforts to bolster its digital economy and enhance its capabilities in digital technology and artificial intelligence, as articulated by the Ministry of Digital Transition.

Project Details and Economic Impact

Anticipated to create approximately 125 direct jobs by 2027, the project will unfold in two distinct phases. The initial phase entails a substantial investment of 5 billion dirhams, aimed at constructing a hub with a capacity of 16 megawatts (MW) in the Nouaceur region. This initiative directly supports Morocco's "Digital 2030" strategy, which aspires to elevate the digital economy's contribution to the gross domestic product to 5%. Launched in 2024, this strategic vision aims to generate 270,000 employment opportunities, foster the establishment of 3,000 startups, and digitize public services across the nation.

The second phase of the project will see Nexus Core Systems investing an additional 7 billion dirhams at a separate location, which will include an enhancement of 20 MW capacity. Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, emphasized that the launch of the Nexus AI Factory Platform is pivotal for advancing the nation’s digital infrastructure and enhancing its prowess in the realms of digital technology and AI.

In light of these developments, Jaap Zuiderveld, CEO of Nexus Core Systems, highlighted Morocco's unique advantages, which include political stability, visionary leadership, and a skilled workforce. He remarked that the Nexus AI Factory is not merely about deploying high-performance infrastructure; it represents a comprehensive ecosystem that encompasses a Center of Excellence. This center is expected to underpin their global operations from Morocco, alongside a dynamic innovation hub that will foster continuous technological advancements.

Nexus Core Systems was established in collaboration with Lloyds Capital in 2025 and is focused on developing AI factories that are optimized for high-demand workloads globally. The London-based company primarily leverages advanced technologies from industry leaders such as Nvidia from the United States and Naver Cloud from South Korea.
