Nine Students from Pontivy High School Embark on Solidarity Project in Morocco

From March 27 to April 10, 2026, nine students from the Lycée du Blavet in Pontivy will travel to Morocco to engage in a humanitarian project aimed at providing running water to a remote village. This initiative is a part of a broader commitment to social responsibility and community support, showcasing the students' dedication to contributing positively to the lives of others.

A Mission to Provide Clean Water in an Isolated Village

On March 6, at the Lycée du Blavet, the participating students presented their project to the public, revealing the plans they had been developing since the start of the academic year. The students involved include those in woodworking, building economics, topography, as well as first-year students pursuing energy and fluid maintenance degrees. They will be guided by a dedicated team of educators, including Marc Latapie, a professor of energy and regional president of the EauSoleil association, Pascal Ruffault, a civil engineering teacher, and several other skilled professionals.

The project will take place in a small village with a population of just 130 residents, located approximately four hours by road from Casablanca in the Khénifra region. In this village, there is no running water, which forces many women and children to walk several kilometers daily to collect water. Marc Latapie explains the hardship faced by the villagers, highlighting the urgent necessity for a sustainable water supply.

The EauSoleil association, established in 2002 in southern France, specializes in organizing water supply projects using solar pumping technologies, often in collaboration with vocational high school students. This particular project aims to install a hydraulic system that will significantly improve access to clean drinking water for the village. The students will work to connect 38 water collection points, set up the necessary water supply and meters, and install five photovoltaic panel modules purchased in Casablanca at the technical facility. On-site, a supervisor and two additional personnel will oversee the installation process.

Reflecting on previous projects, Marc Latapie expresses satisfaction with the outcomes, stating that the improvements in hygiene and accessibility have led to increased school attendance among girls, who no longer have to spend hours fetching water. A documentary capturing the emotional impact of a similar project completed in April 2025 at the village of Aït Aiaazza has also been released, rekindling memories of joy among participants as they remember the happiness of villagers upon receiving running water.

As the students prepare for their upcoming journey, they express enthusiasm about the chance to contribute to this vital cause, emphasizing their commitment to national solidarity. "The adventure continues," concludes Marc Latapie, noting that this will be his last project with the students. A presentation of the new project is scheduled for May 21 at the Lycée du Blavet.
