Pratt & Whitney Invests $100 Million to Enhance Operations and Open New Facility in Casablanca

Major Investment in U.S. Facilities

Pratt & Whitney, a leader in aerospace propulsion, is set to invest over $100 million to bolster its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in the United States. This substantial investment will be distributed across three key locations: Irving, Texas; West Palm Beach, Florida; and Springdale, Arkansas. The initiative aims to enhance the maintenance capacity for the Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine, a model renowned for its fuel efficiency. The expansion will involve increasing facility size and incorporating advanced equipment to optimize the MRO processes, thereby improving service speed and efficiency.

Rob Griffiths, the senior vice president of Commercial Engines Operations at Pratt & Whitney, emphasized the company's dedication to supporting airline customers operating GTF fleets. He stated, "These investments demonstrate Pratt & Whitney’s continued commitment to lifting our airline customers’ GTF fleets." The enhancements are expected to significantly increase engine throughput and repair capabilities, utilizing new technologies to ensure quicker turnaround times for engines returned to customers.

The breakdown of the investments includes $78 million in Irving, Texas, where a new 500,000-square-foot facility has been established to manage used serviceable material and engines. This expansion will increase the stock of used serviceable material by over 60%, which is crucial in alleviating delays that often plague the MRO process. In West Palm Beach, Florida, an investment of $20 million has led to a 50,000-square-foot expansion, enhancing GTF MRO capacity by 40% with new equipment for various engine-related processes. Meanwhile, in Springdale, Arkansas, a $4.7 million investment has expanded the Propulsion Systems Division, adding space and equipment for commercial and military engine repairs while also facilitating GTF additive manufacturing repairs, reducing process time significantly.

New Facility in Casablanca, Morocco

In addition to the U.S. investments, Pratt & Whitney Canada has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in the Midparc Industrial Zone of Nouaceur, Casablanca. This facility spans 130,000 square feet and is anticipated to create around 200 jobs by 2030. It will focus on producing detailed static and structural machined parts for various aircraft engines, including the popular PT6 engine family. Maria Della Posta, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada, remarked on the facility's importance, stating, "This site is a strategic extension of our global production network and demonstrates our commitment to building resilient supply chains worldwide that will enable us to increase production for our customers." The rapid progression of this facility from construction to operational readiness underscores Pratt & Whitney's dedication to enhancing its production capabilities in support of customer demands.

Since breaking ground in 2024, the Casablanca site has made significant strides in workforce recruitment, technical training, and the installation of advanced machining equipment. The facility is designed following lean manufacturing principles and integrates cutting-edge digital systems to ensure high quality and operational excellence. This new operation complements Pratt & Whitney's existing presence in Morocco, where sister company Collins Aerospace has been manufacturing cockpit solutions since 2012, collectively employing around 250 workers in the region.
