Prince Moulay El Hassan Opens the 31st International Book and Publishing Fair

On April 30, 2026, Prince Moulay El Hassan presided over the inauguration of the 31st edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL) in Rabat, a prestigious event held from May 1 to May 10 under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI. This year's fair celebrates France as the guest of honor, symbolizing the deepening cultural relations and cooperation between Rabat and Paris.

During the event, the Prince toured various exhibition stands, including those representing France, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, as well as spaces dedicated to this edition’s theme, "Ibn Battuta and the Narrative of Travel," highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the renowned Moroccan explorer. The timing of this year's SIEL coincides with UNESCO's designation of Rabat as the World Book Capital for 2026, a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage and its commitment to promoting books and reading.

A Showcase of Knowledge and Exploration

This year’s fair features a remarkable participation of 891 exhibitors, including 321 direct participants from over 60 countries, showcasing more than 130,000 titles and approximately 3 million copies available to the public. Centered around the themes of travel and knowledge, in homage to Ibn Battuta, the fair promises a diverse program filled with conferences, literary meetings, poetry evenings, and book presentations. Hundreds of writers, researchers, and intellectuals from Morocco and abroad are taking part in this significant cultural event, solidifying its status as one of the primary cultural gatherings in Morocco and across the African continent.

Additionally, a dedicated children’s area named "Le Petit Prince" offers immersive activities designed to inspire reading and imagination among the younger audience. The fair is organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in collaboration with local authorities from the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, ensuring a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for all attendees.
