Princess Lalla Asmaa's Commitment to Hearing Health
In a significant move aimed at improving the quality of life for the most disadvantaged citizens in Morocco, Princess Lalla Asmaa, who serves as the President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, recently inaugurated the "Hearing Aid for All" program during the first Patient Day dedicated to individuals experiencing deafness and hearing loss. This event, held in Rabat, commemorated twenty years of the foundation's dedication to supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing children. The initiative aims to provide free auditory devices to those who need them the most, reflecting a broader commitment to inclusivity and support for vulnerable populations.
Innovative Solutions and Collaborations
The day began with a heartfelt visit to the Hôpital des Spécialités in Rabat, where Princess Lalla Asmaa interacted with children from Morocco, Palestine, and various African nations who had recently undergone cochlear implant surgeries. In total, 56 children, accompanied by their families, were welcomed as part of the "Together, We Hear Each Other Better" program, which underscores the foundation's ongoing efforts to enhance auditory health.
During her visit, the Princess was introduced to two groundbreaking technological advancements designed to optimize the care of implanted children. The first innovation, named ConnectCare, allows for remote adjustments of cochlear implants in real time through a secure connection, currently serving over 100 children. The second innovation is a remote speech therapy application that facilitates more consistent rehabilitation sessions, a crucial element for successful language development, according to the foundation's findings.
The event concluded with the signing of five cooperation agreements involving the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works in Education, and the territorial health groups from Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, and Casablanca-Settat. Since the inception of its NASMAA program in 2022, the foundation has successfully performed cochlear implants for 950 Moroccan children, along with providing assistance to 368 children from 22 different countries.
This new initiative not only expands the foundation's mission beyond cochlear implantation but also addresses all types of hearing impairments. It embodies the vision of King Mohammed VI, aiming to ensure that equal opportunities become a daily reality for every Moroccan citizen, irrespective of their economic situation. The commitment of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation to enhancing the auditory health of vulnerable populations is a commendable step towards a more inclusive society.
