Progress and Socialism Party Unveils Candidates for Upcoming Legislative Elections

Overview of Candidate List for 2026 Legislative Elections

The Progress and Socialism Party announced on Saturday its list of candidates for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026, spanning 80 local constituencies. This lineup predominantly features familiar electoral figures that the party has historically relied upon to secure parliamentary seats. However, it is noteworthy that the list reflects a concerning lack of representation for women and young individuals, raising questions about the party's commitment to inclusivity.

The official candidate list, revealed during the eighth session of the party's central committee, includes only six women and a mere eight youths under the age of 35, highlighting a significant gap in diversity and representation within the party's electoral strategy.

Notable Candidates and Regional Representation

The candidate list also marks the return of Raho Helia to the party after his previous candidacy under the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the last elections, where he has been endorsed to run in the Tiflet-Romani district. Furthermore, the list includes former Socialist Union leader Abdel Hadi Khairat, who has joined the party and received endorsement to run in Settat.

In the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the Progress and Socialism Party has put forward candidates such as Dahman Mazrihi in the Tangier-Assilah constituency, Idriss Lazaar in the M'diq-Fnideq district, and Zohair Rokani in Tetouan, among others. The Eastern region features candidates like Wafa Al-Taji in Oujda-Ankad and Fatima Zahra Al-Mahi in Berkane.

In the Fes-Meknes region, Ali Lakassib has been selected as the party's candidate for Southern Fes, while in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra area, candidates include Rachid Sassi in Rabat and Nour Eddine Harraq in Kenitra. The party has also renewed its trust in candidates like Maryam Ouhssasa in Beni Mellal and Mohamed Benmoussa in Casablanca-Anfa.

Across various regions, the party has strategically positioned its candidates to maximize electoral impact, from Yusuf Himi in Marrakech to Hassan Omrebti in Agadir, demonstrating a calculated approach to the upcoming elections.
