PSU and FGD Formulate Left Alliance in Casablanca

Formation of the Left Alliance in Casablanca

In a significant political development, the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) and the Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD) have officially launched their collaborative initiative known as the "Left Alliance" in Casablanca. This strategic partnership emerges after months of preparation and coordination between the two left-leaning parties, aimed at addressing the pressing political, economic, social, and human rights challenges that Morocco faces today. The founders of this alliance emphasized that these challenges not only threaten national sovereignty but also exacerbate social and regional inequalities.

The newly formed alliance is driven by its commitment to defend Morocco's national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It advocates for the establishment of a robust democratic framework as a means to reinforce this sovereignty, enhance internal stability, and uphold the dignity of its citizens. Additionally, the PSU and FGD have made it clear that they stand firmly against any form of normalization, reaffirming their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and other humanitarian efforts across the globe.

Initially, the PSU and FGD sought to broaden their coalition by engaging in discussions with the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) in an effort to create a more extensive alliance ahead of the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23. However, these negotiations did not yield a successful agreement, leading to the current formation of the Left Alliance. Currently, both the PSU and FGD hold one seat each in Morocco's House of Representatives, indicating their existing political presence and potential for growth within the new alliance.
