The agricultural sector in the Marrakech-Safi region is currently experiencing escalating tensions, as the Regional Office of the National Agricultural Union, affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labor, has accused the regional director of agriculture of continuing to suppress union activities and evading previously agreed-upon commitments. This situation is viewed as a violation of the directives issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and a detriment to the constitutional and legal rights of union freedoms.
In a statement released by the regional office, it was noted that a recent meeting was dedicated to discussing what they termed as serious developments within the Regional Office for Agricultural Investment in Al-Haouz, particularly concerning issues related to distributors, which they claim affect their professional and social rights.
The statement indicated that agricultural workers were taken aback by the regional director's retreat from implementing commitments that had been agreed upon during dialogue sessions. This regression is seen as a clear violation of the established agreements, posing a threat to social peace within the sector.
The regional office has called for the immediate and unconditional reinstatement of the regional secretary for distributors, who is also a member of the regional office of the National Agricultural Union and a member of the national union council, back to his workplace, ensuring he retains all his professional and social rights and entitlements.
Furthermore, the office demanded the immediate execution of all agreements and commitments established between the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agricultural Union, urging an end to what they described as a policy of procrastination and evasion of responsibilities. They also called for the reinstatement of all employees who had faced arbitrary transfers back to their original workplaces, along with compensation for the administrative, professional, and social damages they incurred.
The statement did not stop there; it held the head of the irrigation management service in Marrakech and the regional coordinator at the Al-Haouz office in Qalaa des Sraghna responsible for exacerbating social tensions, calling for their removal from their positions. Additionally, the regional director of agricultural investment in Al-Haouz was held entirely accountable for the unrest currently affecting the sector and any potential repercussions that may arise from it.
The regional office reiterated its condemnation of all forms of repression against union freedoms and its rejection of retaliation against activists exercising their legitimate union rights. They emphasized that the defense of union freedom and respect for constitutional rights remains an irrevocable choice.
In conclusion, the Regional Office of the National Agricultural Union announced its readiness to establish a program for escalated action in coordination with the National Office of the National Agricultural Union and the bodies of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, while retaining its right to resort to various legitimate forms of struggle in defense of the dignity and rights of agricultural workers.
