New Direct Flight Service Connects Morocco and the West Coast
Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the national airline of Morocco, has officially launched a new direct flight route between Casablanca and Los Angeles. This service was inaugurated with its inaugural flight departing from Mohammed V Airport at 4:00 AM local time, marking the airline's first non-stop connection to the Pacific Coast of the United States. The flight duration is approximately 12 hours, and the airline has committed to operating this route three times a week. Scheduled departures from Casablanca are set for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 4:00 AM, with an expected arrival in Los Angeles at 8:20 AM local time. Return flights will leave California on the same days at 10:20 AM, arriving in Morocco the following day at 5:25 AM.
Hamid Addou, the Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, emphasized that this new flight route significantly reduces the distance to the American West Coast. He also highlighted the significance of this year, as Morocco and the United States celebrate 250 years of diplomatic relations, along with the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America, where Morocco's national team is set to compete.
Strategic Expansion of Long-Haul Services
The introduction of the Los Angeles route is part of a development plan signed in July 2023 between the airline and the Moroccan government, aimed at strategically expanding RAM's long-haul network and establishing Casablanca Airport as a key international hub connecting Africa, Europe, and America. This initiative responds to the increasing demand for intercontinental flights, catering to the Moroccan and African diaspora in the United States, American tourists, business travelers, and sports fans in anticipation of the forthcoming World Cup.
Royal Air Maroc already operates direct flights to several North American destinations, including New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal, and Toronto. Recently, the airline has also expanded its global network with new routes to cities like Beijing, São Paulo, and St. Petersburg, utilizing modern wide-body aircraft for the new Los Angeles service.
