Connecting Italy and Morocco: A New Era of Travel
Royal Air Maroc has officially launched a new direct flight route between Verona, Italy, and Casablanca, Morocco, significantly enhancing travel options for passengers in northeastern Italy. The inaugural flight took off on June 21 from Verona’s Catullo Airport, marking a notable addition as the airline’s eighth destination within Italy. This new service will operate three times a week, specifically on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, establishing a vital link between one of Italy's most economically vibrant regions and Casablanca, which serves as the main hub for Royal Air Maroc.
The introduction of this route is set to benefit not only the Moroccan and African communities residing in northeastern Italy but also business travelers and tourists eager to explore the rich culture and opportunities in Morocco and beyond. Passengers traveling from Casablanca will enjoy seamless access to Royal Air Maroc’s extensive network that spans across Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East, making it easier than ever to reach a variety of global destinations.
Flight Details and Future Plans
Flights on this new route will be operated using the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which boasts a capacity of 159 seats, including 12 in business class and 147 in economy class. The schedule is designed for convenience, with the outbound flight departing Casablanca at 1:10 p.m. and arriving in Verona at 5:20 p.m. The return journey sees the flight take off from Verona at 6:20 p.m. and landing back in Casablanca at 8:30 p.m. Walid El Khassal, the regional director for Royal Air Maroc in Italy, expressed the airline’s commitment to connecting with the dynamic passenger base in northeastern Italy, underscoring the growing demand for direct links to Morocco.
Moreover, Verona’s Catullo Airport has embraced this new service, viewing it as a critical step towards expanding its international reach. Camillo Bozzolo, the Aviation Development Director at Save Group, emphasized that this route enhances access to a broad spectrum of African destinations, reflecting the increasing travel demand between Verona and the African continent, which saw passenger numbers rise to 290,000 in 2025—a 22% increase from the previous year.
This new route is part of Royal Air Maroc’s ambitious growth strategy, which includes plans to add ten aircraft to its fleet in 2026 and introduce ten new routes, notably a direct service to Los Angeles, representing the first nonstop connection between Africa and the U.S. West Coast. Additionally, with Morocco set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, Royal Air Maroc is gearing up for further expansion, aiming to increase its fleet to 130 aircraft and introduce approximately 40 new routes. The anticipated development of Terminal 3 at Casablanca Airport, dedicated exclusively to Royal Air Maroc, is expected to dramatically enhance capacity from 15 million to 35 million passengers annually by 2029.
Early indications suggest that the Verona-Casablanca route has experienced a positive reception, coinciding with the commencement of the summer travel season, which is historically one of the peak periods for travel between Italy, Morocco, and the broader African region.
