Grand Opening of the Royal Theater in Rabat: A Cultural Milestone

On the evening of April 23, 2026, the capital of Morocco, Rabat, witnessed an extraordinary cultural event with the grand opening of the new Royal Theater. This spectacular occasion was graced by the presence of Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem, and Lalla Hasnaa, along with the First Lady of France, Mrs. Brigitte Macron. The theater, designed to be a beacon of artistic expression, aims to elevate Rabat's status as a significant cultural destination, showcasing the commitment of King Mohammed VI to the arts.

A Night of Artistic Brilliance

The inaugural evening commenced with a film presentation that highlighted the architectural beauty of this new cultural gem, symbolizing the cultural renaissance of the Moroccan capital. The artistic program featured a diverse array of performances exclusively by Moroccan talents, starting with renowned pianist Marouan Benabdallah, who delivered a mesmerizing rendition of classical pieces. The mezzo-soprano Ahlima Mhamdi took the stage with powerful opera arias, captivating the audience with her vocal prowess.

Adding to the rich cultural tapestry of the evening, singer Samira Kadiri reinterpreted the Arab-Andalusian heritage, accompanied by Driss El Maloumi on the Oud, a traditional string instrument central to classical Arabic music. This programming, solely showcasing Moroccan artists, created a unifying artistic and human experience, celebrating the richness and diversity of the national artistic scene.

The concert featured a blend of Tchaikovsky's symphonic works, alongside pieces by Bizet and Verdi, interspersed with Andalusian themes and a contemporary Moroccan composition, creating a sublime dialogue across different musical repertoires. A highlight of the evening was the unprecedented collaboration between the Moroccan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Symphony Orchestra, comprising 76 musicians and 40 choristers under the baton of conductor Dina Bensaïd.

The inauguration attracted numerous prominent figures from the artistic, intellectual, and diplomatic communities, marking a significant milestone in the cultural development of the Kingdom of Morocco.
