Major Drug Bust in Algeria

In a significant operation this week, national security forces successfully dismantled the operations of two organized crime networks involved in drug trafficking within the western regions of Algeria. This crackdown resulted in the seizure of 136 kilograms of processed cannabis, which is known to be sourced from Morocco, along with the arrest of four individuals associated with these networks, as detailed in a statement released by the authorities last Thursday.

The first operation was carried out by the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Bechar, leading to the disruption of a drug shipment from Morocco that weighed approximately 79.25 kilograms. During this operation, three members of the criminal network were detained, and law enforcement also recovered a substantial sum of 36.5 million Algerian dinars, which is believed to be proceeds from their illicit activities. In another operation executed by the mobile police unit in Sidi Bel Abbes, an additional 57 kilograms of processed cannabis were seized, effectively halting the criminal activities of this organization and leading to the arrest of one of its members, alongside the confiscation of a vehicle used for transporting these illegal substances.

Following their arrests, the suspects were presented to the public prosecutor's office at the courts of both Bechar and Sidi Bel Abbes. This series of operations underscores the ongoing efforts by Algerian authorities to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety within the region.
