Severe Heatwave Forecast in Morocco
According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, Morocco is bracing for a significant heatwave this coming Sunday, July 19th. Forecasts indicate that temperatures may soar as high as 46 degrees Celsius in the city of Oujda, amidst a broader pattern of extreme heat affecting several regions across the country. The meteorological agency has highlighted the need for residents to take necessary precautions during this intense heat, particularly during peak hours when exposure to direct sunlight should be minimized and hydration should be prioritized.
In addition to Oujda, other areas are also expected to experience high temperatures. For instance, regions such as Aousserd are predicted to reach a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, while cities including Bouarfa, Beni Mellal, Marrakech, and Rachidia are forecasted to see highs of around 41 degrees. Furthermore, temperatures will be slightly lower in Khouribga (38 degrees), and in cities like Meknes and Taounate (37 degrees), with temperatures ranging from 31 to 30 degrees in coastal towns such as Safi and Al Hoceima.
Even in the capital, Rabat, and other major cities like Agadir and Tangier, temperatures are expected to be more moderate, ranging from 29 to 28 degrees. However, places like Dakhla and El Jadida will see the temperatures not exceeding 27 degrees, providing a slight relief from the intense heat gripping the nation. Nighttime temperatures are also expected to remain warm, with lows between 17 degrees in Ifrane and 29 degrees in Bouarfa.
The General Directorate of Meteorology continues to issue warnings about this heatwave, urging citizens to be vigilant and to implement protective measures during this oppressive heat period.
