Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Snow, and Strong Winds Expected in Morocco This Weekend

Rabat - The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a level-orange weather alert for numerous regions across Morocco, indicating the likelihood of unstable and potentially hazardous weather conditions this Saturday and Sunday. According to the latest bulletin, a significant number of areas are anticipated to experience intense thunderstorms accompanied by hail and substantial rainfall, with totals expected to range between 30 to 40 mm.

Regions including Ouezzane, Chefchaouen, Jerada, Figuig, Guercif, Taourirt, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Boulemane, Fez, and Taza will be particularly affected, with storms projected to commence Saturday morning and persist until Sunday morning. Furthermore, the weather service has cautioned that snowfall is anticipated at elevations above 1,800 meters, with potential accumulations reaching between 10 to 20 cm in areas such as Midelt, Khenifra, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Boulemane, Guercif, Taza, and Sefrou.

In addition to the rain and snow, strong winds are expected on Sunday, with speeds ranging from 75 to 90 km/h, which may also carry blowing dust. This wind activity is set to impact regions including Figuig, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, Taza, and Boulemane from midnight until 9 p.m. on Sunday. Local authorities are urging residents in the affected areas to exercise caution and stay updated on weather developments, as conditions may shift rapidly.
