Authorities Crack Down on Sexual Exploitation in Taounate
Recent reports from local sources have confirmed that law enforcement agencies have arrested ten individuals, including a mediator, suspected of being involved in a sexual exploitation case concerning two underage students in the town of Karia Ba Muhammad, located in the Taounate province. The two victims, both high school students, have become the center of a scandal that has sent shockwaves through the community, leading to rampant speculation and rumors. It was previously reported that the students were found in a suspicious location accompanied by two suspects, which triggered an investigation that ultimately led to the apprehension of additional individuals linked to this case.
Following the arrests, the victims were taken to the forensic medical unit at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, where medical examinations confirmed that they had been subjected to sexual assault, although no pregnancy resulted from the incidents. In a related development, both the Islamic Charity Association and the Success Charity Association, which manage the social care institutions for female students in Karia Ba Muhammad, vehemently denied allegations circulating on social media and various online platforms that implicated their institutions in this judicial matter.
In a statement received by the news outlet, the associations expressed their strong disapproval of the misinformation and accusations regarding the involvement of the Dar Talibaat institution in this case, emphasizing that both facilities maintain a disciplined and respectful environment. They urged the public to exercise caution and scrutiny when engaging with information shared on social media, advocating for reliance on official sources to avoid falling victim to misleading narratives. Furthermore, they indicated that they have initiated legal proceedings against those who have harmed the reputation of the Dar Talibaat institutions and their management, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office.
Notably, several human rights organizations, including the Federation of Women's Rights Associations, have taken an active interest in this case. They announced plans to provide direct legal support by intervening as a civil party and have called for the establishment of a national committee to advocate for the rights of the victims.
