A recent incident in Bamhamid village, located in the Taounate region, has unveiled a disturbing case involving the exploitation and enticement of minors. This case came to light approximately twenty days ago when a schoolgirl inadvertently revealed alarming evidence through her mobile phone during class. The discovery of inappropriate images on the device led to an official investigation by the school's administration, which subsequently contacted local authorities to delve deeper into the troubling circumstances surrounding the case.
Human rights activist Abdel Rahim Al-Murabit from the Moroccan Association for Human Rights highlighted that upon further investigation, it was discovered that the mobile phone belonged to a victim who, when questioned, admitted to the existence of other girls involved in similar situations. This prompted immediate action from the authorities, who began interviewing the initial victim and subsequently identified ten additional minors who were potentially victims of exploitation, enticement, and even sexual assault, with two of them reportedly pregnant.
The investigation has so far resulted in the arrest of six adults, including a woman believed to have played a crucial role in facilitating these illicit gatherings. The arrested individuals were brought before a judge at the Court of Appeal in Fes, where they are being held pending further investigations. The case has raised significant concerns, especially as some of the suspects are reportedly influential figures, leading to fears that they may attempt to exert pressure to suppress the case and silence the victims.
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights expressed their outrage over the situation in a communication to the public prosecutor at the Fes Court of Appeal, stating that there are indications that the accused may be leveraging their power and connections to manipulate the families of the victims into silence. This troubling reality has intensified fears among parents regarding the safety of their daughters, potentially increasing school dropout rates among girls in the region. The organization is calling for stringent measures to ensure that all involved parties are held accountable and that the investigation is conducted thoroughly and transparently in accordance with the law, prioritizing the best interests of the children involved.
