Significant Growth in Spain's Fruit and Vegetable Sector Projected for 2025

Spain's Fruit and Vegetable Production Sees Remarkable Growth

The recently published Sectoral Observatory DBK by INFORMA, a subsidiary of Cesce, has unveiled provisional data that highlights a promising outlook for Spain's fruit and vegetable sector for the year 2025. According to this information, the total value of fruit and vegetable production is anticipated to rise by an impressive 14.9%, reaching approximately €28.15 billion. This growth is largely attributed to increasing prices, notably within the fruit segment, which has seen a substantial uptick.

Specifically, the production value of fruits is expected to soar by 24.1%, amounting to €15.02 billion. In contrast, vegetable production is projected to be valued at €13.13 billion, reflecting a more modest increase of 5.9%, although it is important to note that there has been a slight decrease of 1.2% in volume.

Export Trends and Market Dynamics

Exports of fruits and vegetables from Spain are set to continue their upward trajectory in 2025, with forecasts suggesting a climb to €18.57 billion, representing a 6.0% increase. This marks an impressive eleven consecutive years of growth since the drop experienced in 2014, culminating in a remarkable 75% increase over this period. In terms of specific products, fruit exports are projected to rise by 8.8%, reaching €10.55 billion, while vegetable exports are expected to grow by 2.5%, totaling €8.02 billion. Meanwhile, imports of fruits and vegetables are also on the rise, increasing by 13.2% to €5.20 billion.

The European Union stands out as the primary destination for Spanish exports, accounting for 84% of fruit sales and 79% of vegetable sales abroad. Within this context, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom emerge as the leading countries for both categories.

Notably, Morocco plays a significant role in Spain's import landscape, supplying 19% of total imported fruits and a striking 42% of imported vegetables. The sector is characterized by a high number of small and medium-sized producers, although there is a discernible trend towards greater integration and collaboration within producer and marketer organizations.

In the realm of specialized wholesale marketing, there is a notable concentration. The combined revenue of the top ten operators in the sector reached approximately €7.4 billion in 2024, while the top twenty generated just over €10 billion, and the top thirty surpassed €12.2 billion.
