Stalemate in Marrakech: Kawkab and Wydad Draw in Goal-less Encounter

The match between Kawkab Marrakech and their guests Wydad Athletic Club, which took place during the 16th round of the Moroccan Professional League, ended in a goalless draw. The game was held at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech and officiated by referee Mohamed Hwaidiri.

From the outset, both teams displayed a cautious approach, although Kawkab Marrakech managed to assert some dominance early on. The home side aimed to catch the visitors off guard with aggressive plays, but they faced a resolute defense that proved challenging to breach. Wydad quickly found their attacking rhythm, creating several opportunities through players Wissam Ben Yedder and Nourredine Amrabat.

Ben Yedder appeared to have scored a goal in the 45th minute after a brilliant assist from Amrabat, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review, which indicated that Amrabat was in an offside position. As a result, the first half concluded without any goals.

During the second half, both teams sought opportunities to break the deadlock. Kawkab nearly took the lead in the 58th minute with a header from Amourou, following an indirect free kick, but the ball narrowly missed the target by mere centimeters. After the 65th minute, both coaches made several substitutions in search of fresh tactics to yield a goal; Wydad’s coach, Patrice Carteron, substituted five players, while Kawkab’s coach, Abdelhakim Zami, made three changes. Despite these efforts, neither side could find the back of the net.

A genuine scoring chance arose for Kawkab in the 86th minute when substitute Salah Salami unleashed a powerful shot, but the left post denied him, standing in for Wydad's goalkeeper, Ibn Abid. In the 88th minute, Carteron called upon Hakim Ziyech, who was returning from injury, hoping he could provide the spark that his teammates failed to deliver. Nonetheless, the score remained unchanged, and the match ended in a goalless draw.

This match, unfortunately, did not meet the high expectations of excitement that many had anticipated, as it was overshadowed by excessive caution, resulting in a lack of thrilling moments and few scoring opportunities.

With this draw, both teams added a point to their tallies; Kawkab now has 17 points, placing them in ninth position, while Wydad holds 31 points, temporarily sitting in third place.
