Strengthening Franco-Moroccan Relations: A Pathway to Stability and Cooperation

Franco-Moroccan Partnership: A Model for Stability and Progress

In light of the ongoing transformations across the globe, the enhanced exceptional partnership between Morocco and France stands out as a powerful tool for projecting stability and driving concrete solutions. This assertion was made by Barrot during a joint press conference following discussions with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in the Francophone Environment. The Franco-Moroccan relations undeniably exemplify a "model of exception," characterized by fruitful cooperation spanning various sectors including industry, energy, security, defense, culture, and the digital domain, all aimed at serving the interests of both nations. Barrot emphasized that both countries are diligently working together to develop future projects in Africa, for Africa, noting that Morocco serves as France's primary economic partner in the continent and an essential logistical, energy, and financial hub.

New Horizons of Cooperation and Support for Regional Development

Celebrating the dynamic nature of the Franco-Moroccan partnership, Barrot highlighted the decision of the two countries to explore new avenues for cooperation, further enhancing their unique bilateral relations. Since President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Morocco in 2024, significant progress has been made. During this visit, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the French president established a clear and ambitious roadmap, which has been actively implemented to sustain the momentum of their partnership. Additionally, Barrot praised the "positive dynamics" surrounding the Moroccan Sahara issue, reiterating France's support for Morocco's autonomy plan as the sole basis for a fair, lasting, and negotiated political solution. He reaffirmed France's commitment to supporting Morocco's substantial efforts to develop these regions, recalling the increase in French consular presence and cultural activities, including the opening of a visa application management center and the establishment of a French Alliance in Laayoune.

Regarding the Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in the Francophone sphere, Barrot noted that it serves as a new demonstration of what Morocco and France can achieve together in promoting effective multilateralism. He added that this conference also illustrates France's ambition to forge a renewed and updated partnership with the African continent and its willingness to collaborate closely with the Kingdom.
