The educational sector in Marrakech is currently facing significant unrest among contract teachers who have issued threats to completely boycott all regional and national certification exams, as well as monitoring duties. This drastic action stems from the academy's delay in settling their financial dues, which have been pending for years. The teachers have placed the blame squarely on the department responsible for managing human and financial resources.
The National Coordination of Contracted Teachers and Support Staff in Marrakech has expressed serious concerns regarding the unjustifiable delays in disbursement of various financial entitlements. These include family allowances, compensation for supervision and grading related to certification exams and competitions, accommodation allowances, as well as payments for rank, additional hours, educational support, and training.
Moreover, the same coordination has accused certain officials of engaging in disgraceful and unethical behavior towards female teachers, particularly those who are divorced. They reported that the regional council has received complaints backed by what they described as evidence, indicating the involvement of an official in a serious professional misconduct that could lead to criminal prosecution, in addition to administrative accountability. According to their statement, several teachers have received only a portion of their dues, while others have not been compensated for their responsibilities in supervising and grading the supplementary baccalaureate exams, despite being officially assigned to these tasks. They have accused the individual in charge of managing compensation files in Marrakech of manipulating the amount and method of disbursing certain entitlements, asserting that some payments have remained pending for nearly nine years. Furthermore, many teachers had not received even the preparatory documents for the supervision compensation for the previous school year as of mid-May 2026.
