On the morning of Thursday, April 16, 2026, three teenagers committed a bold theft at a discount store in Ratingen, making off with multiple cans of beverages. The incident escalated in the checkout area when the trio confronted store employees and customers who attempted to thwart their escape. Fortunately, responding police units quickly arrived on the scene and managed to apprehend the suspects nearby.
According to preliminary reports, the theft occurred around 10:30 AM at the discount store located on Stadionring Street, where the three youths stole a total of 24 beverage cans. When approached by staff about the hidden merchandise in their backpacks, the teenagers attempted to flee. Several brave customers banded together with two employees to detain the shoplifters, but their efforts were in vain. During the struggle, a 75-year-old man fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders were alerted and transported him to a hospital for outpatient treatment.
Meanwhile, the teenagers fled towards Minoritenstraße. However, swift police response led to the apprehension of two suspects in the vicinity: a 15-year-old with both German and Iraqi nationality, and another 15-year-old with German and Moroccan nationality. A third suspect, also a 15-year-old of Turkish descent, was captured near Kaiserswerther Straße.
All three suspects were taken to the Ratingen police station. Following the initial investigative procedures, they were handed over to their legal guardians. They now face legal proceedings for the suspected crime of robbery.
