Impact of LGV Construction on Train Services to Marrakech
The ongoing construction of the High-Speed Line (LGV) connecting Kénitra to Marrakech has led the National Railway Office (ONCF) to implement a temporary reorganization of train services. This new phase of work specifically affects the train operations between Marrakech and Sidi Brahim. According to an official statement released by ONCF, the objective of this phase is to enhance the capacity of the Marrakech station by expanding the number of tracks and platforms to accommodate both high-speed trains and local commuter trains simultaneously.
This operational adjustment includes a temporary suspension of direct train services to Marrakech, with all arrivals and departures being redirected to Sidi Brahim during the construction period. Travelers should note that no trains will stop at the Marrakech station, which necessitates a significant change in travel plans for many. However, ONCF is committed to maintaining connectivity on this key route.
Alternative Transportation Solutions and Schedule Adjustments
To mitigate the impact of this service disruption, ONCF is providing alternative transportation options. Buses have been arranged to operate between Marrakech and Sidi Brahim, with schedules adapted to ensure smooth transitions between train and bus services. The bus departures from Marrakech will be advanced by one hour to align with the train schedules departing from Sidi Brahim. This synchronization aims to minimize waiting times and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Furthermore, ONCF is enhancing its communication efforts to keep travelers informed. Information will be available through various channels, including the ONCF website, mobile app, customer service centers, and through digital support such as chatbots and WhatsApp messaging. Additionally, staff will be present at both the Marrakech and Sidi Brahim stations to assist and guide passengers throughout this transition period.
The scheduled disruption is expected to conclude on Friday, April 24, 2026, at which point normal train services to and from Marrakech will resume. This construction phase represents a crucial step toward upgrading the railway infrastructure, paving the way for the integration of new services into the network.
