Urgent Call for Investigation into Financial Irregularities in Marrakech Municipality

Demand for Investigation into Financial Mismanagement

The National Observatory for Combating Corruption and Protecting Public Funds, specifically the Marrakech Coordination, has urgently requested an investigation into alleged financial and administrative irregularities within the Marrakech municipality. In a letter addressed to the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, the organization highlighted that several officials and employees are receiving financial compensation related to their roles and travel, as per the provisions of a regulatory decree. However, this compensation scheme, according to the correspondence obtained by the news outlet, is marred by significant 'overreach,' allowing payments to individuals who do not qualify for such benefits or permitting the accumulation of multiple, unjustified privileges.

The letter further revealed that the number of beneficiaries of these compensations exceeds 100 employees, including heads of departments and directors of services, raising critical questions regarding adherence to the legal standards governing the management of public funds. It also pointed out the possibility of dual benefits, particularly concerning reimbursements for personal vehicle use, despite the availability of official service vehicles. The document discussed substantial monthly financial disbursements, suggesting that such practices could impose a heavy burden on the municipality's budget and necessitate regulatory intervention to delineate accountability.

The observatory has called for a comprehensive investigation and for the case to be referred to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing the need for legal consequences should any violations be confirmed. At the same time, it stressed the importance of upholding the presumption of innocence until the investigations are complete and appropriate legal actions are taken.
