Urgent Judicial Measures in Morocco: Spearheading Citizen Displacement and Property Seizures

The situation in Morocco has escalated dramatically as urgent judicial measures are being employed to expedite processes that lead to the demolition of buildings and the forcible displacement of citizens. This growing trend has sparked significant public outrage, particularly in larger cities where extensive areas are being targeted for demolition, purportedly under the guise of urban renewal. Critics argue that this approach aligns with a broader agenda of comprehensive ‘Israelization’ within the kingdom.

Numerous Moroccan human rights organizations have voiced their condemnation of these ongoing demolitions and forced relocations, which are primarily aimed at seizing land under legal pretenses. They assert that these actions disregard the fundamental rights of residents, framing the issue as not merely a matter of real estate management but as a dangerous shift towards prioritizing investment and real estate speculation over the basic rights of the populace, including the right to adequate housing and a dignified life.

These organizations have highlighted that the ongoing demolitions, marginalization, neglect, and coercion for forced evictions starkly reveal the shortcomings of social protection mechanisms. They also underscore the violations of rights related to education, health, proper housing, and a healthy environment, exacerbating multidimensional poverty driven by the influence of real estate lobbies and corruption, which serves external agendas.

Local media reports indicate that demolition bulldozers are advancing into more residential neighborhoods, exemplified by the situation in the Moulay Cherif neighborhood of Casablanca, where substantial public unrest has arisen following the inclusion of parts of the area in demolition plans under the pretense of 'urban renewal' aimed at land acquisition.

According to sources, local residents have expressed their staunch opposition to this trend through various forms of protests and institutional actions, including submitting hundreds of objections and appeals against the actions of authorities.

Furthermore, the Moroccan Human Rights Association has revealed that approximately 17,000 families in the Ouled Ayachi area of the Amir commune in Salé are facing forced eviction. It highlighted that many families have suffered from expropriation and demolition of their homes without receiving compensation or alternative housing options.

The rights group also noted that it has received complaints from victims who reported the destruction of their homes and expropriation of their lands without any compensation, stressing that this situation does not pertain to buildings at risk of collapse, as the area previously had adequate service infrastructure. Many of those affected have prepared a protest petition signed by hundreds of families.

In parallel, the pace of comprehensive 'Israelization' in the kingdom is accelerating, with a rise in normalization agreements covering sensitive sectors that jeopardize national sovereignty and 'legalize' the seizure of citizens' properties. This is particularly evident in the context of the infiltration of pivotal professions such as law and notary services by external influences, amidst serious warnings regarding a legislative proposal to grant Moroccan citizenship to the descendants of Moroccan Jews, recently submitted to Parliament.

Opponents of normalization in Morocco have sounded the alarm, characterizing this as a "methodical and gradual plan" to impose a Zionist presence in Moroccan society, urging collective action to confront the expansionist project of the Israeli entity, which begins with insinuations, progresses through impositions, and culminates in settlements.
