Urgent Repairs Needed on the Critical Road Linking Ghafsai and Fes

Critical Condition of the Road Between Ghafsai and Fes

The vital roadway connecting Ghafsai, passing through Wardzag and Ajbabira towards the city of Fes, situated within the administrative boundaries of the Taounate region, is currently in a catastrophic state, as reported by its users. This situation is particularly alarming for professional drivers who rely on this route daily for transporting goods and commuting between urban and rural centers.

A professional driver expressed his profound dissatisfaction and frustration regarding the deteriorating condition of this essential road. He emphasized that it has become riddled with deep potholes and serious cracks along various segments, significantly obstructing normal traffic flow and posing a real danger to its users, especially in bends and treacherous mountainous areas.

The driver further noted that this dire road situation has had a direct and negative impact on professional drivers, truck owners, and taxi operators. The soaring operational maintenance costs are a direct consequence of increased fuel consumption due to frequent stops and slow movement, along with numerous mechanical failures affecting vehicles and structures because of the poor road conditions. This exacerbates their daily struggles and threatens their livelihoods.

In a commendable personal initiative, the driver took it upon himself to hire casual workers from Wardzag to attempt temporarily filling and repairing some of the large potholes using rudimentary tools. This voluntary step aims primarily to alleviate the suffering of road users while waiting for an official response from the responsible authorities and ministries.

As such, users of this strategic road corridor are calling for urgent and immediate intervention from the relevant regional and provincial departments under the Ministry of Equipment and Water. They are urging the allocation of emergency funds to rehabilitate and pave this critical road that connects numerous rural communities to the city of Taounate, which plays a pivotal role in boosting the economic, social, and developmental momentum of the entire region.
