Valladolid Prepares for Its 26th Humanitarian Journey to Morocco

Adventure Meets Humanity in Valladolid's 26th Solidarity Expedition

The thrill of navigating through the dunes with a convoy of 16 vehicles is not without its challenges, acknowledges pilot Roberto Carranza. However, on Monday, March 16, Carranza will lead a group of 32 enthusiastic individuals on a mission that combines adventure with altruism, marking the 26th edition of their humanitarian journey from Valladolid to the southern regions of Morocco. This initiative, which began as Carranza's dream to compete in the Dakar rally—a dream he fulfilled in 2019—has evolved over the years into a unique blend of sporting challenge and humanitarian outreach. The expedition, strongly supported by the Valladolid City Council and various sponsors, attracts participants from across Spain who dedicate their time, resources, and energy to contribute positively to this noble cause.

This year's adventure involves a meticulously planned route that spans approximately 5,000 kilometers, divided into eleven stages. The convoy will set off towards Tarifa at 5 AM on March 16, making its way to Tangier before heading south to Assilah, and ultimately reaching Merzouga, which is expected to be the operational hub of their humanitarian efforts. Blanca Jiménez, the Councilor for Tourism, Events, and City Branding, expressed her pride and excitement at the initiative, highlighting how it serves to carry the image of Valladolid further afield while engaging the community in their vehicles.

Innovative Approaches for This Year's Expedition

In a novel approach this year, Carranza mentioned the establishment of a base camp from which several excursions will be conducted. The team is also set to explore a new port facility, ensuring smooth transport of the medical supplies they carry. The 2026 caravan is primarily composed of all-terrain vehicles, supplemented by a mobile ICU provided by Ambuibérica, equipped to handle serious injuries, as noted by emergency physician Carlos Olmedo, who will accompany the group. Beyond potential emergencies, the mobile unit will also facilitate health assessments for families residing in remote areas, particularly focusing on the welfare of children.

During the presentation of the expedition, Carlos Magdaleno, founder of the Ambuibérica Group and president of CEOE Valladolid, made a bold statement encouraging participants to bring two ambulances next year instead of one, reflecting his confidence in their extensive experience in the region. Medical supplies are generously donated by Kern Pharma and the Eduardo Gómez Arqueros pharmacy, while the local government covers the costs for educational materials. Additionally, the expedition will distribute sports equipment provided by Real Valladolid, with Jorge Santiago, the Corporate Area Director, expressing enthusiasm for showcasing their values globally through this initiative.
