MADISON – The University of Wisconsin has officially announced the hiring of Morocco Brown as their new general manager for the football program, a significant development that took place on June 4. Brown steps into this pivotal role as only the second general manager in the history of the Badgers, succeeding Marcus Sedberry, who has transitioned to become the interim athletic director.
The news of Brown’s appointment was initially reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel and comes at a crucial juncture in the recruiting calendar, as June is a vital month for official visits. Last weekend, the Badgers hosted 19 players on campus, with plans to welcome an additional six recruits this weekend, making Brown's role even more critical as he embarks on his journey with the team.
In his new capacity, Brown will be responsible for all aspects of roster management, player personnel, and operations, a role that is fundamental to the success of the Wisconsin football program. Both Sedberry and head coach Luke Fickell expressed their enthusiasm regarding Brown's extensive background and the positive impact they believe he will have on the team.
Sedberry, who held the position of football general manager for 14 months and served as the athletic department's football administrator since Fickell's arrival, stated, "We are thrilled about bringing an innovative and experienced leader to Wisconsin. Morocco has an incredible depth of knowledge and expertise in building rosters and personnel strategy at the NFL level. He will play a significant role in helping us continue to elevate Wisconsin Football."
Fickell, entering his fourth season at the helm of Wisconsin, also commended Brown's professional and collegiate experience. He remarked, "Morocco is a great addition to our program and our staff is looking forward to working with him. He brings a lot of NFL experience and has an eye for what it takes to excel at both the collegiate level as well as professional football. He has been evaluating college players for years and will be a strong asset to both our current roster as well as building for the future."
Brown boasts an impressive résumé, having held key positions in several NFL teams:
- 2023-25 – Chief personnel executive, Indianapolis Colts
- 2017-22 – Director of college scouting, Indianapolis Colts
- 2014-16 – Vice president of player personnel, Cleveland Browns
- 2008-13 – Director of pro personnel, Washington Commanders
- 2001-08 – Assistant director of pro personnel, Chicago Bears
Throughout his tenure in the NFL, Brown contributed to four division titles, including those achieved with the Chicago Bears in 2001, 2005, and 2006, as well as with the Washington team in 2012. Notably, he was also part of the Bears' Super Bowl run in 2007.
Expressing his excitement about the new role, Brown stated, "I'm excited and extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the Wisconsin Badgers football program as their new General Manager. I look forward to working in lockstep with Coach Fickell and truly believe that we can create something special in Madison together. God is great, all things are possible, and let's go Badger Nation!"
