The recent performance of AS FAR Rabat has brought pride to Morocco, as they secured a spot in the group stage of the CAF Cup. This achievement marks a significant moment for Moroccan football, showcasing the country's growing prowess on the continental stage. With a thrilling 2-1 victory against CO Korhogo, AS FAR Rabat not only triumphed but also contributed to Morocco's impressive record in this year's African interclub competitions.
In the match, the early lead was established by Youssef El Fahli, who scored a penalty just six minutes into the game. However, the excitement was met with tension when the opposing team equalized in the 54th minute, putting AS FAR Rabat on the brink of elimination due to the away goals rule. It was not until the 83rd minute that Anas Bach emerged as the hero, delivering a decisive goal that sent the home crowd at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium into a frenzy.
Moroccan Clubs Excel in CAF Competitions
This remarkable result for AS FAR Rabat came on the heels of another victory for Moroccan football, as MAS Fès also qualified for the group stage of the CAF Champions League earlier the same day. This double success demonstrates the strength and determination of Moroccan clubs in African competitions, with Raja Casablanca having already secured their place in the CAF Cup by defeating El Kanemi Warriors on Saturday.
On the contrary, the Ivorian teams faced a disappointing outcome, as AFAD Plateau, ASEC Mimosas, and FC San Pedro were all eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. The AFAD Plateau team fell short against CS Sfaxien while ASEC Mimosas and FC San Pedro faced tough matches against MAS Fès and Nouadhibou, respectively, leaving Côte d'Ivoire without representation in the next stages of the tournaments.
As the excitement builds for the upcoming group stages, Moroccan clubs are poised to make their mark, showcasing their talent and competitive spirit on the African football scene.
