Morocco Joins Global Coalition Against AI-Driven Fraud

Morocco Takes Action Against AI-Enabled Fraud

In a significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity and combating online fraud, Morocco has joined an international initiative aimed at tackling artificial intelligence (AI)-driven scams. This operation, known as "Operation Confrontation Ghost," was coordinated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and included participation from law enforcement agencies across 30 countries spanning five continents. The operation, which took place from July 1 to September 30, 2026, witnessed collaboration with INTERPOL, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, and numerous partners from the technology and financial sectors.

According to a statement released by the UAE’s Interior Ministry on October 22, the initiative successfully identified over 15,500 victims of various digital fraud schemes and apprehended around 3,500 suspects. The extensive operation also led to more than 960 arrests and the dismantling of 29 scam centers. Additionally, law enforcement authorities were able to shut down more than 570 social media accounts implicated in facilitating these fraudulent activities and traced over 4,126 bank accounts directly linked to scams. The total amount of funds and cryptocurrencies associated with these fraudulent operations exceeded $39 billion, with ongoing efforts to recover these assets.

Moreover, the operation highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, as authorities exchanged more than 9,000 intelligence leads that provided insights into how criminal networks operate, recruit victims, and launder money across borders. Participating private sector entities included major tech companies such as Meta, TikTok, Mastercard, Huawei, and Crypto.com, underscoring the crucial role of the private sector in combating digital crime. Notably, the initiative also targeted sexual extortion schemes that often victimize children and teenagers, reflecting a commitment to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
