The German U16 women's handball team has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming world champions in Agadir, Morocco, following a thrilling final where they triumphed over Hungary with a score of 37:32. This victory marks a significant milestone for the team, which included talented player Noemi Kamen from HSV Solingen-Gräfrath, who is now celebrated as the fourth handball world champion from her club this year.
Just a year ago, the German U17 men's national team clinched their first world championship, and now the U16 women have followed suit in their debut at the World Championship held in Morocco. The final saw a strong performance from the team, which was ahead at halftime with a score of 17:15, ultimately securing their victory against Hungary.
Noemi Kamen, who has been a standout player in her club, unfortunately did not take to the court during the semi-finals and finals, yet she concluded the tournament with an impressive 13 goals scored during the preliminary rounds. Her club coach, Laura Vasilescu, expressed a mix of pride and disappointment regarding Kamen’s limited playtime, stating, "Winning the world championship is a significant achievement and a unique experience that will shape her future athletic journey. I am thrilled that she was part of this team and could experience such special moments on an international stage."
At only 15 years old, Kamen is considered one of the brightest talents in the HSV ranks, having already made her mark in the women's second division team, where she scored three goals. Vasilescu emphasized that this world title is just the beginning for Kamen, with many more exciting experiences and successes on the international scene anticipated in the future.
