Hot Weather Forecast for Southern Morocco: Temperatures Soar to 39°C in Aousserd

Heatwave Expected in Southern Morocco

Agadir – The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a forecast for soaring temperatures across Morocco's southern Sahara provinces today, with the heat peaking at a staggering 39°C in Aousserd. As temperatures rise throughout much of the country, residents in some coastal regions may experience fog or localized drizzle, providing a brief respite from the heat.

The DGM predicts partly cloudy skies over the southern provinces, with scattered rain showers expected in certain areas. Additionally, fairly strong wind gusts are anticipated to sweep through the region, potentially leading to dust storms in localized spots, which could affect visibility and air quality. Daily temperature fluctuations will vary significantly, with minimum temperatures dipping between 3°C to 9°C in the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, and the eastern High Plateaus. Meanwhile, the southern provinces are expected to experience milder lows ranging from 20°C to 26°C, while the Southeast, as well as the Tadla and Rehamna plains, along with the Souss region, will see minimum temperatures between 15°C and 20°C. Other regions will experience lows between 10°C and 15°C.

Regional Temperature Highlights

Aousserd is set to record the highest forecasted temperature of 39°C today, followed closely by Dakhla at 37°C, Es-Semara at 36°C, and Laayoune at 35°C. In the popular tourist destinations of Agadir and Marrakech, temperatures are expected to reach 32°C, while Safi will see a high of 30°C. Settat and Beni Mellal are predicted to reach 29°C, while Fes, Meknes, and Taounate will experience highs of 28°C.

Further north, Oujda, Tetouan, and Kenitra are all expected to reach 26°C, with Tangier recording a high of 24°C. Milder conditions will prevail in Rabat and Casablanca, where maximum temperatures are expected to be around 23°C. Al Hoceima and Melilla will see highs of 21°C, with Ifrane and Midelt reaching 20°C.

The DGM also anticipates varying conditions along Morocco's coastline. The Mediterranean Sea is expected to remain calm, while the Strait of Gibraltar may experience calm to slightly rough seas. The waters between Mehdia and Tarfaya are expected to be rough to temporarily very rough, whereas other coastal areas will see slightly rough to rough seas.

In addition to these temperature forecasts, other cities across Morocco will experience their own unique weather conditions. Bouarfa is expected to see temperatures ranging from 8°C to 24°C, Errachidia between 13°C and 25°C, and Ouarzazate will have highs between 14°C and 26°C. Essaouira will likely reach temperatures ranging from 17°C to 28°C, while El Jadida will register between 14°C and 24°C.
