Israeli Airlines Encounter Challenges in Reestablishing Services to Marrakech, Morocco
The return of Israeli airlines to Marrakech, Morocco, is proving to be more complicated than initially anticipated. Following Israir's recent decision, Arkia has also suspended the sale of its tickets at the request of Israeli security services. This unexpected development leaves travelers who have already booked their flights in a state of uncertainty regarding the status of their journeys to this popular Moroccan destination.
At the end of September, Marrakech was set to welcome three Israeli airlines, creating excitement among travelers eager to explore the vibrant culture and rich history of Morocco. However, just three weeks later, two of these airlines have halted ticket sales. Arkia, the latest to retract its offerings, announced on October 21 the immediate cessation of new bookings for its Tel Aviv-Marrakech route until further notice. This decision underscores the ongoing complexities faced by international travel in the current climate.
The decision to suspend ticket sales comes directly from requests made by Israeli security services. According to a statement reported by the specialized media outlet Ynet, flights that have already been booked have not been subjected to a general cancellation. The airline is evaluating the possibility of maintaining these flights while passengers scheduled to travel in November await further clarification regarding their travel plans. Arkia is also considering partnering with other commercial entities to continue serving Marrakech should Israeli authorities enforce a halt to its operations. The airline has committed to keeping travelers informed as decisions evolve based on security service recommendations.
