The Moroccan budget law project No. 60.26 for the fiscal year 2027 has earmarked an impressive allocation of 190.5 billion dirhams for expenditures related to the acquisition and repair of equipment for the Royal Armed Forces, alongside support for the development of the defense industry. This allocation enables the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration to commit these funds in advance for 2027, with the understanding that it will be deducted from the budget credits of 2028.
This allocation marks a significant increase from 124.766 billion dirhams in the 2024 budget, rising to 133.453 billion dirhams in 2025, and then to 157.171 billion dirhams in 2026, as reported by the newspaper “Hespress” on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
The increase aligns with the kingdom’s objectives to modernize the Royal Armed Forces by acquiring advanced weapon systems and defense technologies, as well as developing military equipment, thereby enhancing the capacity to address security challenges and protect national borders.
Additionally, this initiative supports the drive to build a local defense industry by attracting investments and localizing military technology, which reduces dependence on imports while bolstering Morocco's defense sovereignty.
On the sidelines of the Marrakech International Airshow 2026, Abdellatif Loudiyi, the Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, emphasized that Morocco has taken steps to lay the foundations for a local defense industry, including establishing a legal framework to regulate the sector and stimulate investment.
He clarified that the kingdom enjoys a favorable business climate, along with security and economic stability, and its geographic position connects Arab and African nations to Europe while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, enhancing its attractiveness for defense investments.
Loudiyi underscored Morocco's reliance on attracting foreign investments and localizing military technology, reiterating the kingdom's commitment to mobilizing efforts and resources to develop the sector, transitioning from importing defense capabilities to building independent national capabilities and strengthening partnerships.
In his speech on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day, King Mohammed VI affirmed that establishing an industrial and technological base in the fields of defense industries and cybersecurity will gradually enhance defense sovereignty, create development opportunities, and solidify Morocco's position as a regional power in these industries.
