Security Alert in Marrakech Following Taxi Driver Kidnapping and Arson Attempt

Security Forces Mobilized in Marrakech After Taxi Driver Kidnapping Incident

On October 23, 2026, a taxi driver in Marrakech is currently receiving intensive medical care due to severe burns sustained during a horrific attempted murder perpetrated by unknown assailants. The victim narrowly escaped death after being held captive in the trunk of his vehicle, which the perpetrators set ablaze in an attempt to eliminate all evidence of their crime.

According to the local newspaper "As-Sabah," this alarming criminal incident prompted a significant response from both the Royal Gendarmerie and the Marrakech Security Directorate. The shocking event occurred in the Ouled Ahmed area, part of the "Sidi Youssef Ben Ali" district on the outskirts of the red city, where authorities discovered the completely charred taxi in a secluded area. The driver had been lured from the "Al-Azouzia" neighborhood, forcibly restrained, and locked inside the trunk while the assailants stole the vehicle.

The report further details that the kidnappers did not stop at abduction and theft. After driving the taxi to a remote location, they decided to ignite the vehicle with the driver still trapped inside, intending to murder him and erase any traces of the crime. Fortunately, the victim managed to open the trunk from within and escaped the flames just in time, leading to his urgent transfer for necessary medical treatment.

In response to this dire situation, the Royal Gendarmerie, assisted by forensic experts, arrived at the scene to examine the wreckage of the burnt vehicle, collect fingerprints, and gather forensic evidence. A judicial investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the public prosecutor at the Marrakech Court of Appeal to uncover the true motives behind this crime, determining whether it was a failed robbery or a personal vendetta.

As the investigation unfolds, the Royal Gendarmerie, in close coordination with the Marrakech Security Directorate, is racing against time to solve this attack. They are analyzing technical data from surveillance cameras installed in the "Al-Azouzia" area to trace the vehicle's route from the moment of the kidnapping to the site of the arson, alongside extensive field patrols aimed at identifying the suspects and bringing them to justice.
