Subtropical Air from Morocco Set to Warm Andalucía and Extremadura This Sunday

Unusual Weather Patterns Expected in Andalucía and Extremadura

As the weather in Spain undergoes a significant transformation, a deep Atlantic depression is forecasted to weaken the Azores high-pressure system, paving the way for subtropical air to travel from Morocco to Spain. This atmospheric shift is particularly expected to impact the regions of Andalucía and Extremadura, where unusually high temperatures for October are anticipated. By Sunday, residents can expect a notable rise in temperatures, with forecasts suggesting that Sevilla could reach above 26 ºC, and coastal areas in Huelva and the Guadalquivir Valley hovering around similar values.

Impact of Atmospheric Changes on Regional Temperatures

The impending weather changes are largely attributed to the reconfiguration of atmospheric conditions in the Atlantic, which will alter the typical weather patterns across Western Europe. As the Azores high-pressure system diminishes in influence, a pronounced trough will extend towards lower latitudes, encouraging a warm air mass to flow from North Africa into the Iberian Peninsula. This warm air influx is set to intensify starting Sunday and peak on Monday, leading to temperatures potentially hitting 30 ºC in Sevilla, 28 ºC in Córdoba, and 27 ºC in Badajoz. In Extremadura, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 22-23 ºC, while some mountain and Mediterranean coastal areas may experience milder conditions. Despite this, even these cooler regions will feel notably warm for this time of year, highlighting the significant impact of the subtropical air mass.
