Celebrating Documentary Filmmaking in Agadir
The 17th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival, known as 'Fidadoc', has officially commenced in the vibrant city of Agadir, Morocco, running from June 21 to June 24, 2026. This year’s festival showcases an impressive lineup of 28 documentary films hailing from 16 different countries, both Arab and international. The festival is a significant platform for filmmakers to present their works and engage with audiences on pressing contemporary issues.
During the opening ceremony, festival president Hind Sayeh emphasized the importance of the participating films as vital tools for understanding the complexities and challenges of our time. She highlighted Fidadoc's commitment to supporting Moroccan and African directors, reaffirming the festival's role in promoting documentary cinema as a space for reflection, dialogue, and expression.
The inaugural event featured the Moroccan premiere of Jerome Le Maire's film 'The Sun and the Bullet', which sets the tone for a festival rich in storytelling and diverse perspectives. The international competition includes nine long documentaries that will be evaluated by a jury comprised of esteemed directors from Morocco, Belgium, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and France. This collaboration underscores the festival's dedication to fostering international cultural exchanges.
Fidadoc will present three main awards, including the prestigious Grand Prize named after Nuzha Dreesi, a special jury award, and a debut work award. In addition, there will be special screenings featuring short films by female artists from the Mediterranean region, supported by collaborations with international film and cultural institutions.
