17th International Documentary Film Festival of Agadir Set to Showcase Global Talent

Overview of the 17th Fidadoc Festival

The 17th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival of Agadir (Fidadoc) is scheduled to take place from June 19 to June 24, organized by the Association for Culture and Education through Audiovisual Media. This prominent festival is known for its dedication to celebrating the art of documentary filmmaking, drawing attention to both local and international talents.

Diverse Programming and Special Events

This year's program includes an international competition featuring full-length documentaries, alongside special screenings that highlight the work of renowned filmmaker Namir Abdel Messeh. Additionally, the festival will premiere the highly anticipated new feature film by Nicolas Wadimoff, titled "Qui vit encore". The opening night will feature the film "Du soleil et du Plomb" directed by Jérôme le Maire, while Hélène Harder's documentary "Fatna, une femme nommée Rachid" will conclude its tour at the festival following screenings at French Institutes across Morocco.

In a nod to cultural heritage, Fidadoc will present two programs recognized as part of the "Mediterranean Season 2026" initiative. One of these programs pays tribute to the legendary Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine, celebrating the centenary of his birth through restored film screenings, a DJ set, and an immersive auditory experience into his life and works. The festival will also showcase "Nulle œuvre n’est une île", a carefully curated selection of ten short films created by women filmmakers from the Mediterranean region.

Moreover, the festival introduces the mobile screening program, Triq Cinima, developed in close collaboration with local cultural, educational, and community organizations, aimed at bringing cinematic experiences to wider audiences. Alongside this cultural festivity, the Fidadoc Documentary Hive provides around one hundred students and emerging professionals with an extensive program of masterclasses, case studies, practical workshops, and professional days designed to highlight and connect approximately fifteen documentary projects with the international documentary community.

Supported by the regional Souss-Massa authority, the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre, the urban municipality of Agadir, and numerous other partners both domestic and international, Fidadoc stands as Morocco's premier festival exclusively dedicated to documentary cinema. It represents a significant cultural event on both a national and international scale, deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Agadir and the Kingdom of Morocco.
